Jerome Streets gives his view of Today's Music & Media

Jerome decides to give his view of today's music & media through a letter:

"Dear Idiots,
I am going to make this as clean and short as possible. We all have opinions and different views, which I respect. It seems that a lot of people are taking today's music too serious. May I remind you that music is "Just Entertainment?" That's all it is. People talk about "real hip-hop" and all that, when they don't realize that even back then, before some of us were even born, that music evolved. I get sick of people leaving some out-of-line or unnecessary comments on videos. I'll make an example: Willow Smith recently put out a song called "Summer Flings." This line had started controversy (which I found out via VladTV):

"Don't really care what we do tonight / good night kisses if the mood is right / laying by the beach with you wishing this will never end."

One viewer commented: "Out at midnight? Honey that's way past your bedtime." Unnecessary. With as mainstream as Willow is, do you think she is sleeping early? It could be possible that her management team wanted her to put out a song like "Summer Flings." On top of that, the song didn't have to be about her and some guy. Sometimes songs are created for viewers to just enjoy the rhythm and lyrics, aka to ENTERTAIN. I also see a lot of rappers losing endorsements for a line in their verses. Rick Ross lost his endorsement to Reebok over his verse in Rocko's "U.O.E.N.O." which is ridiculous. Do you think Ross is really out drugging women with Molly's in champagne? Not only that, but some of the so-called "Ratchets" things people talk about in their music, especially Tyga, and a various amount of West Coast rapper who inspires my party song. You hear all that, and drop Ross for one line? Get the f**k out of here. I like this new era people calling "Ratchet." It's just good party music. If people want to get f**ked up, fine by me. I may do the same at some points. Also people getting into this whole "Illuminati" thing too much. First of all the Illuminati is racist. So why do you proclaim that all these African-American artists are "Illuminati?" The way you idiots comment these artists, you act like you know the Motherf***er. You steady talking about Jay-Z? He don't give a f**k. He doesn't know you and is probably making a million while I'm writing this post (congrats to Jay going platinum for MCHG). If you don't like what an artist talks about, turn the station, or turn the radio off and shut the f**k up. I don't like country music, but you don't see me talking about an artist of the genre. They are making more money and probably have good music I may not know about. So I can support that. It's what they like. Just live your life. If you want to look on media sites and see the rumors of celebrities, go ahead. I do it myself. But don't go off with some crazy comments like you know the person. Just go back on your Facebook or Twitter & show off like you the s**t in your imagination as always do instead of talking s**t about someone you don't even know.
I might as well explain some good ends to today's media also. I like how local artists, even mainstream, are using social networks to promote themselves. I know artists like B.I.G. & 2Pac didn't have Twitter & Facebook. But hey it's all a part of evolution. Can't blame nobody. People are just creative like that. I started off giving cds out, before social networking. It's still good to put out hard copies of your music for managers & A&Rs who don't use social networks. That will definitely get you a fan base & progress. With social networks, it's an easier way. My blog is past 10,000 views because of it. All you have to do is post your link on Facebook or Twitter. Anybody can find it. Sometimes it just takes one click to get you somewhere. Not only that, you can promote online right at home in you PJs, butt-naked, or however. Social networking has it benefits. The only con is that people can easily steal your music, if it isn't copyrighted. But hey people got famous just from pushing on Social Networks. I see that youtube has helped a lot too. One video can get you out like that! People have their ways of grinding. Just get up, get out and get your.

If you took time to read this, thank you, If you were offended by my rant about music just being "Entertainment," or anything in that content, like I said in the beginning, your an Idiot. Thank you." - Jerome Streets
